A portion of God’s Love

I have been praying for the Lord to show me an illustration of His love I have never seen before. Here is His answer.
Matthew 12:39-41 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: (40) For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. (41) The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
The answer is found in verse 41. Nineveh repented. This brings us to the very end of the book of Jonah.
Jonah 4:11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
This is the illustration of God’s love I had never seen before. There are two signs Jesus gave the priests. The first was His death, something they wanted, and understood. Jesus also included His resurrection, something they could not deny, but would not accept.
Jesus went on to explain, Nineveh repented. This was the second sign, which takes us from the middle of Jonah’s journey to the end of the lesson, which is God’s love. This is the same love Jesus lived. They asked for a sign while it was standing right in front of them, Jesus, His life, and love. The sign from God they should have understood.
This also teaches a second lesson very important to me. To find the answer I had to listen, and read the entire book, rather than jumping to conclusions, based on the beginning.
