Casting Holy Seed Isaiah 6

Posted by adventbiblestudy on March 28, 2011

This is one of the most surprising verses I have studied. The results were not at all what I had expected. This is why it is very important to begin each and every study with an open mind, willing to accept everything the Spirit brings to the surface.

Isaiah 6:13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in

Tree

them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

The physical aspects of this verse features two trees, a teil, and oak, casting their leaves. It also makes a short mention about their seeds. On the surface, there does not seem to be very much to study. At times you may run across a verse with too much information.

This verse has a number of interesting features. The first noticeable feature is the texts which have been added during translation. Following is a version with the added texts shown in italics, and underlined.

Isaiah 6:13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

The translators added the word leave, when in fact the trees are casting seeds. The word seed draws us to a very significant parable, the parable of the sower. In this parable the sower casts his seeds which land on different types of ground. Most of the seeds die, because they landed on soil not suitable for growth. The only seed that grew landed on good soil. Is there a relationship between this verse, and the parable of the sower?

This is significant question when you realize the seed in Isaiah 6:13 is referred to as, “holy seed.” What is holy seed?

Seed

And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD’S: it is holy unto the LORD.

acorn seed

Acorn Seed

(Leviticus 27:30)

It may refer to a tithe. Isaiah 6:13 also mentions a tenth.

Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD.

(Leviticus 22:3)

Holy seed may also refer to a Levite priest, who is ceremonially clean to minister within the Tabernacle. On a Spiritual level holy seed can refer to any offering to God, including a person, who has dedicated themselves to God’s work. This is easier to see when we understand the spiritual meaning of a tree.

Tree

Neither let the son of the stranger, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry tree.

(Isaiah 56:3)

For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

(Jeremiah 17:8)

A tree is used as a symbol to represent people.

Another word which adds an interesting amount of detail when the original language is studied is the word substance.

Substance: H4678 matstsebeth

From H5324; something stationary, that is, a monumental stone; also the stock of a tree: – pillar, substance.

When we view the definition of the original Hebrew word, we find it has two meanings, a stone, or the stock of a tree. We have already studied the word tree, and found it can represent people. A monumental stone may refer to a number of things.

Stone

Exodus 28:12 And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.

Two stones in the shoulders of the high priest represented a memorial to the children of Israel.

Exodus 24:12 And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.

God’s law was written on two stones.

Genesis 28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Jacob used a stone to represent God’s house.

When we study the word rock, we find it is used to represent Christ.

1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

After studying a number of details in the verse, the spiritual meaning will be revealed when rewriting the verse using the spiritual meaning of the symbols.

Isaiah 6:13 But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

In this particular instance, it will help to write the text without the words added during translation.

Isaiah 6:13 But yet in it a tenth, and shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance in them, when they cast the holy seed. the substance thereof.

We have found, trees represent people, substance can be a stone, which represents Jesus, and seeds represent a person following God.

Isaiah 6:13 paraphrased:

People have Jesus in them when they share their relationship with God.

People (trees) have Jesus (substance) in them when they share (cast) their relationship with God (holy seed).
